TOKYOKAI CELEBRATES 50 YEARS UNBROKEN TRAINING


The Tokyokai Bu-Jitsu club has achieved a special milestone this is the 50th year that the club has been in existence. To celebrate this special occasion we hosted Alexey Kunin 10th Dan and President of the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation and Sorab Mowlabucus 7th Dan from Mauritius for a week specialist training both at the club HQ and at the University of Cape Town. Saturday 7th August saw the staging of a demonstration and awards function. We were honoured to have in attendance Marlene Gaven, Nick Legg and Bruce Hamilton. Hanshi Nigel Sessions performed a Kime No Kata in honour of Chas B Gaven with Muya Koloko as his uke, this was followed be demonstrations of techniques and a Nage No Kata performed by Craig Sylvester and his uke Charles de Mellion.

The following grades were awarded and recognised:

  1. Hachidan to Soke Nigel Sessions - grade awarded by Soke Alexey Kunin President of the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation
  2. Yondan to Mark Smith – grade awarded by Soke Nigel Sessions President of the South African Ju-Jitsu Association and recognised by the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation and life membership of the AJJIF.
  3. Recognition of Yondan of Giles Embleton by the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation and life Membership of the AJJIF
  4. Nidan to Muya Koloko – grade awarded by Soke Nigel Sessions and the grading panel of the SAJJA and recognised by the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation.
  5. Shodan to Craig Sylvester - grade awarded by Soke Nigel Sessions and the grading panel of the SAJJA and recognised by the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation and life membership of AJJIF
  6. 1st Kyu to Carl Johns - grade awarded by Soke Nigel Sessions and the grading panel of the SAJJA
  7. 3rd Kyu to Charles De Mellion - grade awarded by Nigel Sessions and the grading panel of the SAJJA
  8. 4th Kyu to Graeme Paul - grade awarded by Soke Nigel Sessions and the grading panel of the SAJJA
